Rivers State is set to receive a new Nigerian Army brigade in Ahoada, a move aimed at strengthening security operations and easing tensions in the area.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara welcomed the plan, commending President Bola Tinubu and the Chief of Army Staff for the initiative.

The governor gave the assurance on Friday while receiving Brigadier-General Ismaila Sule, Commander of the Nigerian Army's Sixth Division Garrison, at Government House, Port Harcourt.

Fubara pledged continued support for the military, stating that the partnership would focus on protecting lives, property and critical oil facilities, while promoting peace and development without undermining the rights of residents.

Speaking earlier, Brigadier-General Sule, who is also Sector Three Commander of Operation Delta Safe, said the planned brigade is part of the Army's ongoing expansion from eight to 12 divisions to improve security coverage across the country.

The new formation, when established, is expected to boost military presence in the Ahoada axis and enhance ongoing operations in Rivers State.
